The prosperity of commercialized markets has boosted the prevalence of advertisements around the globe for decades of years. Under detailed classification of products, children nowadays also constitute a huge part of target customers who deserve the designated commercials. Although potential adverse effects are visible, as far as I am concerned, it is still too critical to ignore the useful messages delivered from those advertisements.
It is undeniable that children, at the early stage of life, will conduct quite a lot of behaviors out of impulse or interest, including purchasing. At the same time, the peer pressure, which arouses students’ mind of rivalry, will also provoke impulsive acts. After watching some vivid and exquisite commercials that sells toys, snacks or other stuffs, it is possible for kids born in wealthy families to be seduced and make the purchase, leaving children who cannot afford those goods in total jealousy or even disappointment.
However, the adverse effects should not be over-exaggerated while positive functions of those commercials should not be overlooked. The original function of advertisements is to introduce relative information about different products, thus assisting consumers to discover demanded necessities as well as make comparisons among commodities of the similar type. Children, an indispensable part of customers, can also resort to advertisements to select their wanted products, thus saving a great bunch of time searching aimlessly in streets or shopping malls.
From my perspective, apart from the basic function of introducing information, advertisements can also serve as positive stimulus on children’s creativity and imagination. Young kids are easier to be attracted by scenes that are innovative and novel, which not only pushes advertisements to modify the content and mode of representation in a more creative way, but also in return imposes influences on those young audiences who are fascinated by the originality.
In conclusion, even though problems are still clearly visible among advertisements aiming at children, benefits can also be attained through the correct utilization of commercials.
